Maria Montessori believed that discipline cannot be imposed, but instead develops naturally through freedom within a carefully prepared environment. She warned that when children are not afforded this freedom, the result can be “the suffocation of life itself.” While this principle sits at the heart of Montessori practice, bringing it to life in everyday settings can be both complex and challenging.
Join Maria Montessori Education Foundation (MMEF) and Montessori Aotearoa New Zealand (MANZ) for a thoughtfully designed workshop for kaiako and parents. Together, we will explore practical approaches to navigating the daily tensions around limit-setting—shifting from “policing” behaviour toward fostering independence. With a focus on effective communication and consistency, this session supports the development of a cohesive, respectful approach that nurtures and empowers all tamariki in our care.
Date: 10 October, 2026

Delivery: Via Zoom. A link will be sent two days prior to the workshop.

Facilitator
Leena Savolainen
We were fortunate to have Leena Savolainen as our 0-3 year speaker at MANZ Conference 2025. Leena was so well received that MMEF and MANZ have asked her to do the 0-3 workshop this year.
Leena is an AMI-trained 0-3 Montessori guide passionate about supporting children, their parents, and caregivers in creating safe learning environments during these key foundational years. She has a particular interest in social-emotional development and communication and is keen to support any adult who cares for children, as she understands how challenging it can be to navigate relationships with immature humans.
