Montessori Aotearoa New Zealand supports the Government’s efforts to strengthen child protection and calls for reforms that are practical, well-resourced, and centred on the wellbeing of tamariki and whānau. In its submission on Strengthening Child Protection, Targeted Engagement 2026, MANZ supports nationally consistent mandatory training and reporting, stronger multi-agency collaboration, and improved safety checking systems. The organisation emphasises that early childhood education services play a vital role in identifying and responding to concerns, but new obligations must be matched with workforce capability, clear guidance and adequate funding. MANZ believes stronger outcomes will come from a connected, responsive system that prioritises prevention, early intervention and meaningful support for children and families.
