Montessori Aotearoa New Zealand welcomed the opportunity to comment on the proposed nationally consistent induction framework for new teachers from The Teaching Council Aotearoa.
We support the intent to bring clarity, consistency, and stronger support to induction programmes. However, success will rely on proper funding, flexibility, and co-design with Māori and Pacific educators. We emphasised the importance of tailored mentoring, meaningful assessment, and reducing unnecessary workload. While we support structured guidance, it must still honour the unique character of each learning setting. Clear communication, tools for mentors, and strong cultural capability support are essential. With the right backing, this framework has real potential to support new teachers and lift outcomes across the sector.
