Media release: Education leaders voice strong opposition to gutting of Teaching Council independence

Education leaders from across the country have signed an open letter to the Minister of Education, Erica Stanford, to express strong opposition to moves that would undermine the independence and core functions of the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. 

The concern centres on proposals that would shift responsibility for initial teacher education and remove teachers’ voice from the setting of professional standards and the code. These standards are important for both students and the teaching profession.
