We are a small friendly preschool licensed for 34 children aged 2-6 years of age. Established in 2004 and privately owned, we believe in providing children with a high quality learning environment with all of our teachers being fully registered Montessori professionals.
Our centre culture can be described as warm and welcoming with parents, whanau and children feeling a strong sense of belonging. We value involvement and contribution from our parents and regularly host special events where we come together as a community such as Grandparents Morning, Father’s Day Breakfast, Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea and our annual shared lunch to celebrate our unique cultures and individuality.
We believe in the importance of extending children’s learning outside the preschool and regularly foster links in our community such as visiting our local rest home, regular library visits, charitable giving to name a few.
With the exception of our mat time and lunch routines, children are able to work uninterrupted for extended periods of time in our child-centred Montessori environment. Children are respected as individuals and their particular needs and interests acknowledged and followed.
We provide children with a comprehensive learning environment where there are equitable opportunities to learn in both the indoor and outdoor areas of our preschool. We offer an environment where children can learn as socially competent, independent thinkers developing a lifelong love of learning. We believe in a balanced approach to preschool education with an emphasis on growing happy, stimulated children whose natural curiosity can flourish.
Our Montessori environment supports children’s learning from the day they started preschool and as they grow closer to starting primary school our Extended Learning Programme is designed to further complement their skills, knowledge and social competency by providing further opportunities to;
- Learn, collaborate and share as part of a group of children
- Sit and concentrate for a required period of time
- Follow instructions
- Undertake a deeper level of learning in a particular subject matter which may involve project work
- Get involved in learning outside the classroom which supports their communication skills, social awareness, sense of involvement and leadership
We operate from 8.30am-3.30pm. Fees and information pack available on request or please refer to our website www.thechildrenscorner.co.nz
Please contact us by phone or e-mail to reserve a time to visit our centre. As we are a small centre with a full roll of children we strongly encourage parents to add their child’s name to our waiting list as soon as practically possible. Children need to attend a minimum of three days.
When your child has a provisional place at our preschool a non-refundable deposit of $100 must be paid to confirm their space. This will be credited against your preschool fees when your child starts.
To help your child settle into preschool life, our teaching team will discuss with you a suitable settling programme to ensure your child becomes familiar with our learning environment, routines, teachers and starts to become comfortable spending time away from parents/caregivers prior to starting with us. Morning sessions are also available for younger children to help them transition to our learning environment
