PLD 6-12 Years: Geometry and Cosmic Education

From the Ancient Egyptians to present day! Geometry is everywhere in the world around us, both in natural and man made environments.
Date: Saturday 11 September 2021
Location: Eastern Suburbs Montessori Primary School, Auckland

From the Ancient Egyptians to present day! Geometry is everywhere in the world around us, both in natural and man made environments. It is a beautiful way to engage children who are yet to discover their own Mathematical Minds, and is an integral part of Cosmic Education.

Come join with like-minded primary kaiako to explore real life examples and applications of some concepts and lessons. This workshop will include some story telling, theory, art and a hands on component, which can be immediately and easily implemented in your 6-12 years environments.

What you need to bring to the workshop

For the hands on component, please bring a sharp pencil (mechanical pencils are best if possible), a ruler, a drafting compass and a book to work in (either a quad book or a blank notebook).

We will be going for a short walk outdoors if the weather is fine and possibly over uneven ground, so please wear appropriate footwear.

Facilitator: Tesneem Couper

Tesneem is a Preschool and Primary trained Montessori Teacher who obtained her qualifications in Toronto, Canada at TMI. She is currently a 9–12 teacher at Eastern Suburbs Montessori in Auckland, and has spent 16 of her 20 years of teaching working with 9 –12 students.

Tesneem grew up with Montessori, since her mother had trained as a Montessori teacher, and spent most summers at her aunt’s Montessori school in Brantford, Ontario. What she loves most about Montessori is the focus on following the child’s needs and developing strong relationships with students and their whanau. As well as being a Montessori parent and Dance Mum, Tesneem is an avid knitter and baker, and has a passion for music, visual arts and good food.
