“…..nature endows a child with sensitiveness to order. It is a kind of inner sense that distinguishes the relationship between various objects rather than the objects themselves. It thus makes a whole of an environment in which the several parts are mutually dependent. When a person is oriented in such an environment, he can direct his activity to the attainment of specific goals. Such an environment provides the foundation for an integrated life.”
Maria Montessori, The Secret of Childhood, Chap.8
The child from birth seeks consistency in the environment to build an understanding of life that is unfolding. During the first three years of life the infant’s needs are shifting and changing due to the acquisition of movement capabilities and language. As educators and parents a nuanced understanding of the child’s need for order during the first three years of life is essential to support optimal development.
The workshop will offer insight into the following:
- How can we offer stable points of reference from birth to build an order for the young child to feel safe, secure and build trust?
- How can we support the child’s processing of order in his environment and in his mind as the child builds language and movement capabilities?
- What kind of experiences could we offer to in the environment so that the child is able to relax, be happy and learn in a natural way ?
We are very fortunate that Kavya Chandrasekhar is facilitating this workshop. However, due to the time difference for Kayva in India, have the day to yourself and join us for this workshop between 4.00-6.00p.m. Consider it like a pre-dinner cocktail.
