Pakiri School Montessori Pathway

About Pakiri School

With the recent relocation of Mahurangi Montessori Primary, Pakiri School is developing a unique educational approach, which weaves together the principles of Montessori and Tikanga Māori under the school’s whakatuakī, Kotahi te Hikoi Whakamua – Forward Together.

This educational approach focuses on ‘active’ learning, where children learn through doing and problem-solving; independence, which empowers children to work at a pace and level suited to them; the development of the ‘whole child’, creating social and emotional intelligence as well as academic intelligence; and building a deep understanding of Tikanga Māori.

Pakiri School is a small, semi-rural school situated near the stunning Pakiri Beach, whose localised curriculum connects to the natural resources on its doorstep.

The school offers highly individualised learning programmes in composite classes and runs from year one to eight.

About the Mahurangi Montessori Primary Trust

The Mahurangi Montessori Primary Trust was established in 2007, by a motivated group of parents with a vision to continue their children’s Montessori preschool education within a local state primary school. Through their efforts, a Montessori classroom was established at Matakana School in 2009. In 2019, the Montessori classroom relocated to Pakiri School.
