Montessori tells us that we have to prepare ourselves to work with tamariki. What does she mean? What does preparation look like? Guiding tamariki each day in our Montessori environments can be a joy and challenge.   It requires us to be fully present and  connected with our own spiritual nature enabling us to truly connect with the child. This requires preparation of our heart, mind, and spirit so we can truly see the child before us and support them in their work of self-construction.

An ordinary teacher cannot be transformed into a Montessori teacher, but must be created anew, having rid herself of pedagogical prejudices. (Montessori, Education for a New World).

This workshop will provide practical steps towards the spiritual preparation of the teacher and will provide you with essential practices that once adopted as part of your daily preparation will transform your life and that of tamariki you guide.

This is an interactive workshop delivered in two parts.

Part one: In this workshop we will begin to nurture our own spirits as we begin to identify our personal values and how these impact on our work with tamariki. We will learn how to guide our thinking so that our actions and thoughts are aligned with these values and can direct us through the day. We will build on this awareness by identifying how and why humility is an essential aspect of Montessori’s focus for the adult. As we see its value and how essential it is to our work, we will learn how to practice this virtue and others in our daily life.

Part two: The foundational understanding from Part one will be essential as we begin Part two. This will focus on learning and practicing the skills of sustained observation to help us develop the ability to truly ‘see’ the child. We will identify the essential ‘attitude’ required to observe which in turn will bring about the personal transformation of the adult and child which Montessori spoke so passionately about.

This workshop is designed to renew and refresh us both personally and professionally.
